Pupil of Gérome, Bonnat and Harpignies. He started his career at the 1870 Salon, then at the Salon de la Société Nationale des Beaux-Arts. He preferably chose social subjects such as miner.
The pastel introduced here figures a vigorously drawn couple, sitting, the man's head hiding the woman's, the whole scene was squared for transfer by Roll.
