The tempest after J.Vernet (sold)
Engraving by Jean Joseph Baléchou

51.8 x 57.6 cm sheet
Balechou Jean Joseph The Tempest After J.Vernet Engraving
Jean Joseph Baléchou (1716 Arles - 1764 Avignon), an excellent engraver, was received at the Academie and made himself particularly known by the engraving of the portrait of Augustus III, King of Poland, after Rigaud's painting. He engraved the sea ports of Vernet, like Lebas and Cochin. "The predominant qualities of Balechou are a great vigor of execution and a great compositional boldness in his original works," says the author of the Benezit dictionary, which adds that Balechou drew his proofs by himself.
Dedicated to Monsignor Michel Ferdinand of Albert d'Ally, taken from the cabinet of Mr D. Poulharies, a trading squire in Marseilles.
