Gavarni : Joli garçon, payes tu qué'qu'chose
Gavarni (Pseud. de Sulpice Hippolyte Guillaume Chevalier (Paris, 13 janvier 1804 - 24 novembre 1866, Paris)

14 1/4 x 9 3/4 in. (36,6 x 25 cm) sheet

From : "Charivari" "Journal publiant chaque jour un nouveau dessin" (quand la censure le permet). One sheet. Satisfactory condition.
Charivari was founded in 1832, le 1er décembre, by Charles Philippon (1800-1862), a satirical magazine which later inspired the British magazine "Punch" created in 1841. Very famous artists contributed to its success : Honoré Devéria, Cham (Amédée de Noë), Gustave Doré, Paul Gavarni, André Gill, Alfred Grévin, Granville (Jean-Isidore-Ignace Gérard), henri Monnier, Traviès, Gaspard-Félix Tournachon known as Nadar...etc.
Lithographs, woodcuts and later zincographies (gillotage) were amongst the techniques used by these artists. Charivari ended in August 1937 (105ème année, nouvelle série).

Caption : "-Joli garçon payes-tu qué qu' chose?...
-Pas l'sou!...Ma chère!...
-Cher ami je te ferai crédit!..."
